Director's BIO

1979 – 1981
During and after study for his Abitur (final school exam),
three-year evening course in painting and graphics
at the College of Visual Arts, Dresden

1984 – 1987
Animation degree at the Film and
Television College in Babelsberg, Potsdam
Graduated as an animation designer

1987
Worked at the DEFA Studio for Animated Film
as an animator on children’s cartoon films,
plus work as a cartoon cameraman,
designer and director on his own projects

1990
Co-founder of the Saxony Film Association
and until 2001 its chairman

From 1991
Extension of his commission work in the fields
of documentary and photography

1993
Co-founder of the German Institute for Animated Film
and expert on the Wiesbaden Film Certification Board
for the following nine years

Since 1995
Member of the City of Dresden’s Council of Culture

Since 1999
Managing partner of Balance Film GmbH

Since 2004
Deputy trustee of the DEFA Foundation
